Shibari, the Dalex way

Dalex approaches shibari as a practice of trust. Every tie is built on respect for the body, a clear understanding of cause and effect, and safety that is never negotiable. Rope is never forced – the body sets the pace, communication stays open throughout, and every session ends with care. Whether it is therapeutic bondage, photography or private lessons, the same principles apply: consent, awareness and attention.

Rope preparation guide

A draft of how I prepare jute rope before it is used.

  1. Singe the fuzz

Run a flame quickly along the rope to burn off loose fibers. Keep the flame moving so the rope does not scorch.

  2. Stretch under tension

Hang or pull the rope under tension to remove excess stretch and make it firm and predictable in the hand.

  3. Oil or wax

Work in a small amount of oil or beeswax to condition the fibers and protect the rope.

  4. Singe again

Stretching raises new fuzz – singe it off once more with quick, moving passes of the flame.

  5. Finish the ends

Whip or back-splice the ends so they stay tidy, then let the rope rest before first use.
